Our Volunteer Programs
Volunteers support the Nursery in many ways, including
- Serving on the Board of Directors
- Maintaining the facility
- Providing consulting services
- Assisting with fundraising events and activities, and
- Working with children in the classroom.
The
majority of the volunteers in our programs are parents fulfilling
Nursery services requirements or students participating as a part of
their university experience. We also welcome support from the community
at large, from people who share our love of children and our vision for
a safe, nurturing environment to encourage their growth.
Classroom Volunteers
Most
of our classroom volunteers are students from San Jose State University
or Santa Clara University. These students are a wonderful addition to
our program. Children love having someone give them extra attention and
encouragement. Classroom volunteers are not used to replace our regular
staff. They are additional classroom help, and are always under the
direct supervision of our staff.
Our parent and student
volunteers are very diverse in ethnic and cultural heritages. All
receive in-classroom instruction, including on-going learn-as-we-go
coaching focused on their role and responsibilities. Students receive a
two hour on-site orientation attended by their university program
sponsor. Instruction includes discipline, positive Nursery community
interaction, and opportunities for personal growth. Volunteer
activities are coordinated by the program director and directly
supervised by the classroom teachers at all times.
