Community Involvement
Economic and Cultural Accessibility
Located
in one of the county’s lowest income and most diverse neighborhoods,
the Nursery provides economic and cultural accessibility through
sliding scale fees and care that is sensitive to and meets the needs of
the community. 78% of our current Nursery families meet the 2001
low-income criteria from HUD (Department of Housing and Urban
Development) for Santa Clara County and are assisted by multiple source
funding. 22% of the families are from moderate income families. This
unique economic diversity enhances the culturally enriched environment
where the respect of children, parents, and staff for all values
flourishes and forms the foundation for cooperation, common
experiences, and shared knowledge.
To support the needs of
families from a broad financial range, the center pursues the strategy
of attractive, high quality programs with aid supporting families whose
incomes meet Low income definitions.
Homelessness
The Nursery continues to work with other
agencies in remedying causes of homelessness. Parents receive training,
leading to employment and self-sufficiency, while their children are
protected in a nurturing environment that enhances their skills,
attitudes, and self-esteem, all essential for success in the elementary
years — a critical step in breaking the cycle of poverty.
