Our Services
To fulfill the Nursery’s mission to enhance child, family, and community resilience, we offer three core services:
- Child care
- Parent education and support
- In-community student placements (university level)
The
Nursery is in the final stages of an initiative to comprehensively
renovate our infant and main facilities. The renovation will enhance
our capability to serve families by providing enlarged, redesigned
facilities that promote child development in accordance with current
knowledge and practice. The facilities will care for 56% more children
and provide increased opportunities for in-community student placements.
Who We Serve
Located
on the eastern edge of downtown San Jose, we are in one of the county’s
lowest income and most diverse neighborhoods. The rich diversity of our
children and staff provides an enriched learning environment that
promotes respect and understanding for others with cultural, economic,
language, gender, ethnic, and physical differences at a time when the
values and behaviors of young children are forming.
Although
all children learn and develop best in a quality childcare program,
those children from families at risk look to the Nursery to meet more
of their needs and often benefit the most. These families are coping
with a variety of economic, emotional, and personal difficulties that
are sometimes severe, such as educational deficiencies, unemployment,
changing housing arrangements, and homelessness.
Thanks to
generous support from foundations, corporations, and individuals in the
community, we are able to provide financial aid to assist 77% of our
families whose incomes meet the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development definition of Low Income.
