A Parent's Story
One of the very special things about San José Day Nursery is that we serve a very diverse socio-economic mix of children, and as one of the few programs offering sliding scale tuition we are able to serve families who otherwise would not be able to afford quality early care and educational services. Approximately 90% of the children enrolled at the Nursery receive some form of subsidized care. Subsidized care for young children is needed now more than ever by San José families striving for self-sufficiency in this challenging economic downturn.
The following is a story of one of our families:
“Carol” was a single mother of a 6-month-old baby girl when she came to us in 2008 very worried about who would care for her daughter when she made the decision to go back to work. The subsidized care Carol’s daughter receives through San José Day Nursery enabled her to “finally get off welfare”, get a job and support her family, and go back to school. Carol feels secure in the care her daughter receives at the Nursery and she feels grateful that “Staff are so loving”. Carol’s daughter has since graduated from the Infant Room to the Toddler Room, and Carol is amazed at the progress her daughter has made. We are proud of Carol also, as she will graduate from a teacher credential program that will enable her to significantly increase her income and self-sufficiency.
